Sections of motorway closed for traffic as fog engulfs Punjab, upper Sindh

Different sections of the motorway had again to be closed for traffic on Tuesday morning after fog blanketed large swathes of Punjab and Upper Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 


M-2, from Lahore to Hiran Minar, M-4 from Sher Shah to Faisalabad and M-5 from Sher Shah to Rohri were closed as fog considerably reduced visibility, making it dangerous for motorists to drive.   


Motorway Police, on the other hand, advised people to avoid travelling unnecessarily, drive at a slow speed and switch on the fog lights if it was really necessary.  


Also on Tuesday, the air quality slightly improved in Lahore and other cities of the country.


The Punjab capital, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 225, emerged as the second most polluted city in the country after Peshawar where the AQI stood at 320.


The city of gardens was on the fourth position in the ranking of the world’s most polluted cities after New Delhi, Dhaka and Sarajevo in Bosnia Herzegovina. 


The AQI over the US consulate was recorded at 432. Similarly, it was 395 over the FAST University; 346 over Brevzon, 297 over The Mall and 282 over Phase-8, DHA.  


Temperatures are dropping in Lahore and other parts of the country with each passing day as minimum temperature in the provincial capital was recorded at 6 degrees Celsius, while it was 21 degrees Celsius on the maximum side. 


The humidity level in the air in the morning was recorded at 81 per cent.


The Met Office, on the other hand, forecast dry weather for the city during the next 24 hours.
