Former prime minister and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi announced on Tuesday that he would not contest the general elections scheduled to be held on February 8, 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking outside an accountability court (AC) in Islamabad where he had gone to attend the hearing of LNG reference against him, he regretted that his case had been pending for the last 14 years despite the fact that not a single person gave testimony against him during this period. “Does not the NAB chairman know that lives of the people nominated in corruption cases are being destroyed?” he questioned.
Abbasi further said that the people who were responsible for the dismal situation the country was in today would not go unpunished. “What an irony that today the Supreme Court (SC) hears cases at night,” he said, adding, “Why the apex court does not take notice of the plight of those people whose cases have been pending for the last several years.”
Earlier, the court adjourned the hearing of the reference until February 13.
