Senior TV journalist Athar Mateen was laid to rest in Karachi amid tears and sobs as a large number of politicians and people attended his Namaz-i-Janaza on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Funeral prayers of SAMAA TV Senior Producer Athar Mateen were offered at 2:00 pm at the Al-Siddiqi Mosque in Clifton. He was laid to rest at Yasinabad graveyard.
The journalist’s family members, President Arif Alvi, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Saeed Ghani, Aleem Khan, Dr Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehan and a large number of people attended his Namaz-i-Janaza.
Athar Mateen murdered on Friday morning while attempting to foil a dacoity near Five Star Chowrangi in Karachi’s North Najimabad.
Meanwhile, the police continued its investigation into the murder of Athar Mateen and arrested the owner of the motorcycle used by the dacoits who shot him dead.
Athar’s brother Tariq Mateen has urged the journalist fraternity to unite against his brother’s murder. Tariq Mateen in an interview held the Sindh government, Rangers and police responsible for his brother’s death and spoke of a peaceful protest outside the Nazimabad SP office.
The grieving brother questioned the authorities about the unrest in Karachi due to rising street crimes.
He accused the law enforcement agencies of being involved in the crime. “The robber who shot Athar seemed to be a trained shooter as he had taken a single fatal shot.”
