The course of the Indus River has been diverted at the site of Dasu Hydropower Project, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
At the project site, the Indus River is now passing through a diversion tunnel instead of its natural course.
A large number of general managers, representatives of contractors and consultants, engineers and workers were present on the occasion of diverting the course of the river.
Wapda chairman Lt-Gen (retd) Sajjad Ghani congratulated the project management on diverting the course of the Indus River.
After diverting the course of the river, construction activities on the temporary dam were started.
After the completion of the temporary dam, the construction of the main dam of the Dasu project will begin.
The second under-construction diversion tunnel of the project will also be completed by mid-April 2023.
During the high flow season, the Indus River water will pass through both diversion tunnels.
It is to be noted here that the 4,320 MW Dasu Hydropower Project is being completed in two phases.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to produce electricity in 2026.
