Due to heavy snowfall and rains in different parts of Kashmir and Balochistan, including Neelam Valley, Quetta, Kalat and Chaman, the traffic was badly disrupted and the routine life of citizens affected, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.
According to the channel report, another tragedy struck as a pregnant woman lost her life while being transported to the hospital, with heavy snowfall disrupting traffic and routine life in the Neelam Valley.
Due to the adverse weather conditions, all residents have been confined to their homes as several roads remain blocked, severely affecting mobility and access to essential services.
This marks the second such incident within a week. In an earlier tragedy, another pregnant woman passed away during labour at a hospital, reportedly due to the lack of adequate medical facilities.
The harsh conditions have exacerbated the challenges for residents, raising concerns over the availability of timely medical aid in the Valley.
On the other hand, an intermittent spell of rain accompanied by heavy snowfall, which had started from last night in different areas of Quetta, continued on Sunday.
Snowfall was also reported from the Mastung, Shela Bagh, Kan Mehtarzai, Khanuzai, and Muslim Bagh areas.
The traffic was disrupted on Chaman Highway in the Shela Bagh area. While the National Highway Authority (NHA) strongly rejected suspension of traffic on roads.
A NHA spokesman said that traffic was slow on the Zhob and Quetta Highway. The statement further stated that traffic on all routes is operational.
The spokesman said that heavy machinery was being used and salt pouring started to remove the snow from the roads in the Lak Pas area of Mastung.
NHA already adopted effective measures to ensure a smooth flow of traffic while traffic on the road between Muslim Bagh and Quetta is operational.
