Making it clear that Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) sole candidate for the seat of Punjab chief minister, former foreign minister and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday rejected reports that there was any plan to nominate his son Zain Qureshi as a candidate for the office, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to the media personnel at the Supreme Court (SC) building, he said all such reports are false.
He clarified that Zain was not even interested in a ministry. “His duty is to safeguard the ideology of PTI,” he said.
Qureshi’s son Zain had won the by-polls on the provincial seat PP-217 from Multan on July 17, while voting for the chief minister’s election would be held on July 22, 2022.
Qureshi further said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other parties had come to power only to get their leaders a ‘clean chit’ in corruption references.
He stated it emphatically that there was zero tolerance for ‘corruption’ in the PTI and the ‘accountability of the corrupt’ was one of the basic features of the party’s manifesto. “We have neither compromised on these principles in the past nor we intend to do so in future,” he said.
PTI leader said there was no room for self-serving legislation in any constitution of the world, and added sadly the amendments made by the coalition government to the NAB law were person specific. “These were made with the view to give political leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz and former president Asif Ali Zardari, amnesty,” he alleged.
Qureshi said that the PTI’s win on 15, out of total 20, Punjab Assembly seats in the by-elections held a day before yesterday (Sunday, July 17, 2022) was enough to prove that masses had rejected the imported government.
