The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has threatened to lock down hospitals if the government continues ignoring demand for proper security cover of doctors.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Thursday, the PMA members condemned the incident of firing at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, leaving on-duty doctor wounded.
They raised the demand for punishing the culprit so that the doctors could feel sense of security while serving the humanity.
The association said the doctors have been struggling to save people from Covid-19 but they are unsafe because of poor management.
PMA Secretary General Dr Sajjad Qaiser said such incidents took place again, they would be compelled to shut down OPDs.
He opposed ‘smart’ lockdown and reiterated the demand for countrywide lockdown to stem the spread of Covid-19. Referring to a press conference by premier health aide, he said Dr Mirza should not use brand names of medicines as it might provide room to profiteers to loot people.
Reportedly, a counter-terrorism department (CTD) official, identified as Kamran alias Kami, opened fire in the emergency ward of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Wednesday night, injuring an on-duty doctor, Fahad.
