Rain spell will continue to bring relief to heat-stricken people

Minor girl among 3 dead in rain-related incidents in Layyah: Breach occurred in Layyah canalĀ

The wet spell is still here to soak many areas of the country including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Taunsa, Uch Sharif and several other plain areas. However, three people including a minor girl were died in the rain-related incidents in Layyah, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

The much-needed countrywide downpours have brought some relief for the heat-stricken people of mostly plain areas who have been weathering the extraordinary heatwave prior to the wet spell enunciated as pre-monsoon rains that hit two days ago. 

However, the poor rain water management facilities are also creating problems for people living in low-lying areas which present a picture of gigantic pool after receiving rain creating enormous problems for motorists and pedestrians. Besides this, the rain and accompanied gales also disturb electricity supply in most of the areas as feeders keep tripping marring the sense of rain enjoyment.

According to the Metrological Office report, rain coupled with thunderstorm and strong wind is expected to lash Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Gulyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sahiwal. 

The Seraik belt areas including Bhakkar, Layyah, Khanewal, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are also expected to receive showers, thunderstorm and strong gales. 

Most areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Mardan, Swabi, Noshehra, Charsadda, Peshawar, Mehmand, Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to be pounded by rain, thunderstorm and strong winds. 

In some KP areas, there is a forecast of torrential rain and hail. 

Weather in most areas of Sindh will remain hot and dry. However, light rain is expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, Karachi, Thattha, and Badin. 

Likewise Sindh, weather in most parts of Balochistan will remain hot and dry. But there is forecast of rain and thunderstorm in Sibi, Naseerabad, Kohlu, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Harnai, Loralai, Barkhan, and Zhob.

According to weather report, most areas in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will be lashed by heavy rain and strong gales.

On the other hand, three people including a minor girl died and seven others injured in the rain-related incidents in Layyah. 

In Karor area of Gaman Shah, two people died and two others got injured when the roof of their house caved in due to heavy rain

In another incident of roof collapse caused by torrential rain in Kot Sultan, Hafizabad, a two-year-old girl Sughra died while five others got hurt. 

According to rescue officials, the injured persons were shifted to the hospital. 

Breach occurred in Layyah canal

Separately, a breach was occurred in a canal near Hansa Wali Bridge in Layyah owing to heavy downpours. 

After developing a crack, the canal water has entered the nearby fields and it is destroying the standing crops. 

The irrigation authorities have informed that teams have been dispatched and they have started work to repair the breach.
