Just six months before his 100th birthday, BBC broadcaster Yavar Abbas has tied the knot with writer and director Noor Zaheer in London.

Yavar, who is going to celebrate his 100th birthday in September, says the fear of a lockdown in London prompted him to tie the knot a few days earlier otherwise it was scheduled to take place on March 27.

Yavar got commission in the army during the British rule and later served the Pakistan Army as a major. He moved to London in 1949 and joined the BBC.

Noor is the daughter of Syed Sajjad Zaheer and Razia Sajjad and sister of Nadira Babbar. She is a well-known feminist, author and journalist and writes in Hindi, Urdu and English. She is the president of the Delhi branch of the National Federation of Indian Women and the Indian People’s Theater Association (IPTA) and a member of the Communist Party of India.

In a twitter message, BBC senior broadcaster Shafi Naqi Jamie greeted Yavar for tying the knot once again.

Yavar and Noor have tied the knot at a time when the world is struggling to contain the coronavirus outbreak. Except China, the virus is spreading at a great speed in the entire world and causing hundreds of deaths and infections every day. In the United Kingdom alone, another 643 people tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, March 19, while 40 patients lost their lives to the virus in a single day.
