The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday reserved its verdict on admitting for hearing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s petition challenging delay in decision in his defamation suit filed against Prime Minister Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Mustafa Ramday Advocate appeared in the court on behalf of the PML-N president.
In the petition, Advocate Ramday argued that Prime Minister Imran Khan had levelled baseless allegations against his client Shehbaz Sharif four years ago which led to the filing of defamation suit by his client against him in the civil court.
He further said that as per the law of defamation, the court was bound to give its decision within 90 days. “But truth of the matter is that Prime Minister Imran is yet to file response in the case in the court,” Advocate Ramday said, and added even the lawyers representing the prime minister were not giving the answers and were using delaying tactics instead.
Alleging that the civil court had adjourned the hearing of the case 60 times, the counsel for the PML-N president prayed to the LHC to order the judge to pronounce a decision within 90 days.
The court reserved its ruling on the maintainability of the petition.
