Thousands of migrant workers gathered in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday to buy train tickets to reach their homes amid a strict coronavirus lockdown across India.
As the government had made inadequate arrangements to maintain law and order and ensure social distancing among the workers keeping in view the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the standard operating procedures for Covid-19 safety were rendered useless literally.
The district administration had told the migrant workers to gather at Ramlila Ground for screening and registration before boarding the trains. The police and officials of the district administration seemed helpless against the large number of people jostling against each other to buy the train tickets without any regard for their safety or safety of the fellow workers.
The city magistrate and officials of the Ghaziabad district administration were also present on the occasion.
