A special court set up under the Official Secrets Act in Islamabad on Saturday sentenced a police officer to three years imprisonment for planning to share confidential documents with a foreign country’s ambassador, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Zahoor Ahmad, an ASI in the Islamabad Police, was taken into custody from the court premises.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra pronounced the verdict.
According to the text of the FIR registered against him on December 13, 2021, Zahoor was making a plan to meet the envoy in order to hand him over the documents concerning the country’s security.
On January 22, 2022, the ASI had been granted bail in the case.
