The way the government got 33 controversial bills approved in a joint session of the parliament has no precedent in history, senior journalists and analysts remarked.
These laws will cause problems for the government in the future, Salim Bokhari, Iftikhar Ahmed PJ Mir and Javed Iqbal opined in 24NewsHD TV programme DNA.
Salim Bokhari said that three out of 33 controversial laws of the government are directly related to the future and integrity of this country – EVM, amended NAB ordinance and expats right to vote.
The government kept on saying that it wants consultation with the opposition and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser wrote a letter for the purpose, but the session was convened without consultation. The government’s act invited public ire on the Internet. Salim Bokhari said these controversial laws will be used against the PTI government.
Javed Iqbal questioned the role of the opposition and lashed out at it for failure to play the role of the opposition. He said the opposition did not react to the anti-rape bill and Salim Bokhari said the opposition parties protested in and out of the parliament. He said the government's efforts and phone calls, the opposition remained united.
Iftikhar Ahmed said that holding elections is the job of the Election Commission under the constitution. Granting the right to appeal to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav also came under discussion.
Salim Bokhari said the decisions of the International Court of Justice are not more important than national security. “We have shamefully surrendered to India's demand by giving the right of appeal to condemned spy. Had any opposition parties done the same, it would have been termed a traitor.”
Javed Iqbal said that why do we bring our sensitive issues in Parliament these issues should remain with the intelligence agencies.
Regarding Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry’s lecture on the release of Saad Rizvi, Salim Bukhari called the ministers’ confession that the government is not ready to fight against extremism dreadful.
