Karachi, the bustling metropolis on the Arabian Sea, finds itself in the grip of a concerning environmental crisis as air pollution has reached unprecedented levels, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The city now takes the unenviable lead in the global ranking of the most polluted cities, according to the latest Air Quality Index (AQI) report.
The Air Quality Index has recorded an alarming rate of 227 particulate matter per cubic meter, signaling a critical deterioration in the atmospheric conditions.
This spike is particularly pronounced in the areas surrounding the U.S Consulate General, where a worrisome AQI of 197 particulate matter per cubic meter, raises serious health concerns.
Railway quarters near Lala Zar and its adjacent areas are experiencing a concerning AQI of 255 particulate matter, further exacerbating the pollution crisis.
The recorded levels of particulate matter, ranging from 100 to 200, pose a significant health risk to residents, urging experts to emphasize the adoption of urban precautionary measures.
Health authorities and environmental experts are calling for immediate action, urging citizens to take preventive measures. Wearing masks when venturing outdoors is strongly advised. As Karachi grapples with this severe air quality crisis, there is a growing consensus among experts for the implementation of urban initiatives to curb pollution and safeguard the health of the city's residents.
