The Sindh government has denied filing appeals for civilians’ trial in military courts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

On Friday, the federal, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan governments and defence ministry filed intra-court appeals in the apex court through the Attorney General for Pakistan praying that decision of the Supreme Court against the trials of civilians in the military courts should be annulled.

It was reported earlier on Thursday that the Sindh government also lodged an intra-court appeal in the Supreme Court against its decision.

However, a statement from the Sindh Chief Minister’s House issued on Saturday said the “appeal in ‘Trial of Civilians before Military Courts’ case has not been filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan”.

“The impression that the Sindh government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court for the trial of civilians in military courts is baseless,” the statement added.

On October 23, a five-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsen and comprising Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and Justice Ayesha A Malik had declared trials of civilians in the military courts as unconstitutional and held that 103 persons and others who may be placed in relation to the events arising from May 9 and 10 could be tried by criminal courts established under the ordinary or special law of the land.
