An international awareness seminar on cancer diagnosis and treatment was held at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore. The Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
A Renowned International Cancer Specialist, Prof. Dr Azra Raza from Columbia University USA and Prof Stavroula Kousteni, Professor of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics, graced the occasion as the Guest Speakers.
In the welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, thanked the distinguished guests. He said that our mission is to promote Quality Education, Research and Innovation. visits of foreign delegations at Fatima Jinnah Medical University are welcomed and leading to strengthening of collaboration in research and academic. The main objective of today's seminar is the Awareness and to adopt Preventive Measures. We must publicize this message that Early Diagnosis and Timely Treatment are the key solutions in this disease. He announced that the Specialist of Surgical Oncology at Fatima Jinnah Medical University will be started very soon.
Prof Dr Azra Raza thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, and the entire faculty. She highlighted the timely diagnosis and treatment of cancer. She also mentioned the revolutionary steps that must be taken in the context of cancer treatment. She said that if cancer is diagnosed on time and treatment is started on time, then this life-threatening disease may be preventable. She informed about various technologies and innovations for diagnosis of cancer cells. She concluded that the abolition of the mother cancer cell in cancer patients is essential for the elimination of disease.
Professor Stavroula Kousteni shed light on the causes of cellular changes at the cancer site. She said that the development of biomarkers in various diseases causes the proliferation of cancer cells.
Prof. Amna Yousuf gave a detailed talk on cervical cancer. She said that Screening, Genetic Testing, HPV Vaccination and Public Awareness are the key factors in preventing cervical cancer. She also informed about the prevention and life-saving treatment of cervical cancer in current circumstances.
On this occasion, Principal Prof Dr Abdul Hameed, Deans Prof Dr Ayesha Malik, Prof Aliya Zahid, Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Prof. Munazza Iqbal, Prof Shamila Ejaz Munir, former Pro Vice Chancellors Prof Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Shireen Khawar, former Principal Prof Noreen Akmal, Dr Taskin Zahra, faculty members, and a large number of students participated.
