As part of heightened security measures, Karachi Airport and its surrounding areas have been declared a red zone, with civilian entry strictly restricted, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Tuesday.
The channel reported that the government has also imposed Section 144 in Karachi for seven days to counter the anticipated November 24 protests by the opposition party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
SSP Malir Kashif Abbasi told the media that only passengers with valid travel documents are permitted to enter the airport premises after declaring it a red zone.
He said public entry into the vicinity has been banned, and access routes to the airport have been significantly limited.
Enhanced security deployments around airport
Police and Rangers have been deployed round the clock at five critical checkpoints near the airport, including Star Gate, CAA Club, Madam Bridge, Model Morr, ASF Road, and the Rangers Checkpost.
As per the channel report, the security personnel are thoroughly inspecting all vehicles and individuals deemed suspicious.
Special advice to air travellers
Air passengers have been urged to arrive well before their flight schedules to avoid delays due to intensified security checks.
Authorities emphasise the importance of compliance to ensure smooth airport operations amid heightened threats.
PTI's planned protests and government measures
The decision to impose Section 144 and restrict public access to sensitive areas is part of a broader strategy to prevent any disruptions or security breaches during PTI’s planned protests on Sunday, November 24.
