There are at least 14 gangs that have been active in robbing citizens leaving banks in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

These gangs are operated from Interior Sindh and Afghanistan, Specialised Investigation Unit (SIU) SSP Junaid Sheikh claimed.

There are also some locals who have been involved in robbing citizens leaving banks of cash, he added.

“The SIU has busted as many as 25 small gangs involved in snatching cash from citizens,” he claimed further.

“There have been 46 cases of cash theft so far this year. The police have recovered more than Rs1.5 million worth of stolen money,” he added.

“Incidents of cash snatching are taking place frequently in densely populated areas including Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and North Karachi Saddr,” he stated.

“These incidents are a continuation of street crime. The non-implementation of SOPs by banks is also giving rise to these incidents,” he emphasised.
