PPP and JUI reach '100pc' consensus on 26th constitutional amendments: Bilawal

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, after holding meeting with JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Saturday, claimed that PPP and JUI have created 100 percent agreement on the proposed draft of the constitutional amendments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to media outside residence of JUI chief, Bilawal wished JUI chief present the proposed draft in the National Assembly. He said the proposed draft belong to JI and PPP at the same time. He said that the proposed amendments are aimed at the supremacy of the parliament. Bilawal hoped that PTI will prefer positive attitude and will not fall to personal agenda. Bilawal said the proposed draft which Maulana Fazl will present in the parliament have been written by JUI chief himself. He said that PPP has tried its maximum best to create consensus but now the ball is in PTI’s court.
Earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, BNP-M chief Sardari Akhtari Mengal and a delegation of senior PTI leaders held back-to-back meetings with Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Saturday with focus on the proposed constitutional amendments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Bilawal who also held in-depth talks with Maulana Fazlur Rehman last night arrived at the JUI chief’s residence soon after the PTI leaders left.
Before coming to JUI chief’s residence, a PPP delegation led by Bilawal held consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House on the prevailing political situation in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Murtaza Wahab also participated in the meeting.
Meeting with PTI leaders
The PTI leaders, who met with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Saturday, said they could not take any decision on the proposed 26th constitutional amendments unless they met with the former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Members of the party’s delegation told the JUI-F chief that this morning they kept waiting outside the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi for hours, but were not allowed inside to meet their leader.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, Asad Qaiser, Ali Zafar and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Hamid Raza were those who met with Maulana Fazl. As the meeting was in progress, Balochistan National Party (BNP) head Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who had reached Islamabad from Dubai last night, reached the JUI-F chief’s residence.
Mengal’s meeting with Maulana Fazl in the present context is being termed very important.
Political leaders from PPP and PML-N, in their bid to develop a consensus among political parties on the amendments, have been visiting Maulana Fazl’s home for the last few days almost every day in order to enlist his support ahead of the passage of these amendments by both Houses of the parliament.
Govt allows five PTI leaders to Imran Khan at Adiala Jail
The government has allowed five leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to meet the former prime minister and the party’s founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, so that they could discuss with him the proposed 26th constitutional amendments, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Sources told 24NewsHD TV channel that those who had been granted permission were PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Zafar, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja and Sahibzada Hamid Raza.
They informed that the party leaders had been conveyed that they had to decide the time of the meeting and that they would be responsible for any delay in it or its postponement.
Ban on meetings with Adiala Jail inmates extended
Meanwhile, the Punjab government on Saturday extended the ban imposed on meetings of the Adiala Jail prisoners by another two days.
Quoting its sources, the TV channel reported that the ban was extended in view of security concerns.
Earlier the provincial government had banned meetings until October 18 (today).
