Senator Faisal Javed Sunday said that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) should be used in the next general elections after the legislation in the parliament.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the ruling party’s senator said that the Supreme Court in its decision had already said that under Article 222, parliament has the powers to legislate on the matter.
He added that under Article 218/3 of the Constitution, it was the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold free, fair and transparent elections and to curb corrupt practices during the polls and technology could be used for this purpose too.
He said that the allegations of rigging were ever made in the previous elections but next general elections with transparency would be held by electronic voting.
He said that now, it was the responsibility of the parliament to legislate in this regard. He also said that overseas Pakistanis would also be given the right to vote in the next general elections.
