Fire broke out at a Meena Bazaar in Karimabad area of Karachi on Monday, completely gutting the meter room, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
However, firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze after battling it for an hour.
Fire brigade station head Mairaj said that the department had sent four vehicles to douse the flames.
Since smoke was continuously billowing from the meter room, therefore all elderly and those who were sick were evacuated from the flats overlooking the Bazaar.
However, those residing in these flats said that sparks were seen in the room even at midnight, and that they had complained to the Karachi-Electric (K-Electric), but their men reached the site quite late, hence leading to the fire.
The residents appealed to governor Sindh and the caretaker provincial government to rein in the K-Electric since if the department had fixed the fault in the beginning, such a loss could have been averted.
