Showing concern over the smuggling of petroleum products (POL) in Pakistan, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has sought a report from the government on the steps it has taken to curb the practice, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
It has been reported that the IMF has asked the Finance Ministry and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to list the steps both these departments have taken to stop monthly smuggling of these products of 143 liters.
There are reports that the country has lost more than $10 billion under tax and levy due to the smuggling of these products.
Earlier this month, Caretaker Finance Minister Shamshad Akhtar had said that the government would meet the tax collection target it had set in an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
While addressing a press conference, Shamshad said the caretaker setup had inherited several challenges; however it was not frightened by them and was trying to deal with them one by one.
