The 34th death anniversary of famous film star Rafi Khawar, aka Nanha, was observed on Tuesday. On this occasion, he was paid rich tributes for his unforgettable services for the entertainment industry.
Rafi Khawar, popularly known as Nanha, was one of the greatest comic actors of Pakistan who acted in multiple movies and TV series in both comic as well as serious roles.
His first Urdu film ‘Watan ka Sipahi’ was released in 1966. He got a breakthrough in the film ‘Noukar’ in 1975. He was hero in film ‘Tehka Pehlwan’ in 1979 and the same year his film ‘Dubai Chalo’ was a super hit at the box office. His pair with Ali Ejaz got fame in film ‘Insaniyat’ in 1967. His most memorable TV series “Alif Noon” was a show based on social problems that were brought on screen through the hilarious antics of the lead characters Allan and Nanha.
Nanha’s success in films and celebrity status was at an all-time high. So money was never an issue for him during his affair with Nazli. He even asked film producers to cast Nazli opposite him in many films and the pair became inseparable in the early 1980s.
However, the success did not last long and Nanha’s films started failing. As he was surrounded by financial problems, Nazli started losing interest in him. This reportedly made Nanha commit suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun on June 2, 1986. His final resting place is at a cemetery in Karim Block, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore.
