One of the first two Muslim ladies to become members of the US Congress, Ihan Abdullah Omar reached Pakistan and held a special meeting with former premier Imran Khan at Bani Gala on Wednesday.
The US Congresswoman was received by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in his residence and discussed Islamophobia and other international and national issues.
The PTI leader Shirin Mazari has also shared the photo of the meeting between Imran Khan and the US Congresswoman on Twitter.
She said that the US Congresswoman praised Imran Khan for working against Islamophobia at the international level.
While Imran Khan lauded the courage of the US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and his steadfast stand on the important issues.
Who is Ilhan Omar?
Ilhan Abdullah Omar of the Democratic Party is one of the first two Muslim women to become members of the US Congress.
Ilhan’s family sought political asylum in the United States in 1995 to escape the Somali civil war, when she was 13 years old.
In 2000, at age of 17, Ilhan was granted US citizenship. She received higher education in Political Science and International Studies and became the first Somali-American Member of Parliament to win a seat in the House of Representatives from Minnesota in 2017.
She is also the first US Congresswoman to wear the hijab and a leading human rights activist in the United States, protesting Islamophobia at all levels and raising her voice against racial discrimination against all minorities, including blacks.
She gained worldwide popularity for his strong opposition to the biased statements of former US President Donald Trump and his strong response to ongoing Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
