Christians in Pakistan and around the world are celebrating Easter today (Sunday) with great religious fervour, passion, and devotion, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the report, from the early hours of the morning, candlelight processions were held before sunrise, followed by special Easter prayers in churches nationwide.
During the service, special prayers were offered for the peace and stability of Pakistan, interfaith harmony, and to honour the sacrifices made by Pakistan's armed forces and national heroes who laid down their lives for the defence of the country.
The joyful day began with early morning candlelit processions where men, women, and children walked together to churches, symbolising the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Special prayers were offered for peace, national unity, and the country’s progress during the services held in churches across Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Pakpattan and other cities.
In Sheikhupura, a pre-dawn candlelight march was organised by the local Christian community at Church of God, led by Pastor Khurram Shehzad.
A large number of men, women, and children participated in the solemn march, which passed through designated routes before returning to the church premises.
At the conclusion of the march, a special prayer service was held at Church of God, where attendees observed their religious rituals with devotion.
Easter 2025 Explained
Easter Sunday this year falls on April 20, 2025. Unlike fixed-date holidays, Easter moves based on the lunar calendar. It is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full moon after the spring equinox (March 21)—which places Easter in 2025 on April 20. The earliest possible date Easter can fall is March 22.
Holiday Announcements
In Lahore, missionary educational institutions such as St Anthony's High School and Sacred Heart Cathedral High School have granted 4 days of Easter holidays, starting from Friday to Monday, to allow students and staff to fully participate in the religious festival.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government announced a two-day Easter holiday for the Christian community. According to a notification issued by the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department, the holidays will be observed on April 20 and 21.
Gratitude from Christian Leaders
Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Anthony Naveed expressed his appreciation to the Chief Minister of Sindh for recognising Easter as a significant religious occasion and approving public holidays for the Christian community.
He also thanked the chief minister for releasing advance salaries to Christian government employees in view of the Easter celebration.
