WhatsApp has started rolling out a new translation feature for chat messages and channel updates, currently available to select Android users in the beta program.

According to a report, the feature is accessible in version 2.25.12.25 of WhatsApp for Android. While it’s only available to some beta users for now, a wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.

The feature supports several major languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian. Translation is performed directly on the device, meaning no internet connection is required once the relevant language pack is downloaded. Users can also install a language pack that automatically detects and translates incoming messages.

You’ll find the option to enable translation in the chat info screen, where you can choose which language to translate from. This setting can be applied individually for each chat—whether private or group. For those who prefer not to use automatic translation, a manual option is also available by tapping “Translate” on individual messages.

Since translations are processed on-device using lightweight language packs, accuracy may not match that of cloud-based services. However, WhatsApp allows users to send feedback to help improve translations—without sharing message content with Meta.

If you're part of the Android beta program and have access to the new translation tool, feel free to share your experience!
