Coronavirus retreat picks up pace in Pakistan

The coronavirus pandemic is fast on its way out of Pakistan as the country making rapid progress to defeat the deadly infections on its all fronts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

This was obvious from the reading of Wednesday’s data where the active number of coronavirus cases fell below 12,000, number of cases registered a little over 500 and only eight deaths were recorded throughout Pakistan.

The country is also experiencing a swift recovery process among the Covid-19 patients as the number of active cases stood at 11,945. According to the government’s Covid-19 portal, as many as 513 new cases were reported during the last 24 hours (Wednesday). This period also recorded only eight virus fatalities taking the total death toll to 6,209.

According to the figures of the National Command and Operation Centre released early Thursday, 23,670 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, taking the number of tests conducted across the country to more than 2.3 million.

As many as 8,561 tests were conducted in Sindh, 7,550 in Punjab, 2,814 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3,685 in Islamabad, 522 in Balochistan, 364 in Gilgit Baltistan and 174 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

A total of 290,958 cases detected so far with Sindh topping the list having 127,060 cases, 95,800 in Punjab, 35,468 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12,403 in Balochistan, 15,425 in Islamabad, 2,219 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and 2,583 in Gilgit Baltistan.

The number of total deaths stood at 6,209 with Sindh having 2,343, Punjab 2,186, KP 1,242, Islamabad 175, Balochistan 139, GB 63 and AJK 61.
