Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for launching the universal health insurance coverage for every family in the province.
The prime minister said this universal health insurance coverage of Rs1 million per family was in line with the vision of the founding father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the first step towards Pakistan as a welfare state. He wrote, “Congratulations to KP govt that despite financial problems they have taken a bold step of giving Universal health insurance coverage of Rs 1 mn per family to all KP-domiciled citizens. This is in line with our Founding Father's vision for Pak & a first step towards welfare state.”
Under KP government’s universal health insurance policy, every family will receive health coverage of Rs1 million per year and public and private hospitals designated by the programme will provide free of cost treatment to residents of the northwestern province. The state-owned State Life Insurance Corporation has been selected after the bidding process and it will be paid Rs2,849 per family annually.
Speaking at the launch ceremony earlier, the prime minister praised the initiative and said the move would "put pressure" on other provinces as well. He said he would push the idea in Punjab as well, where the PTI was in power and also suggest the Balochistan government to launch a similar scheme.
