The government of Sindh has intensified crackdown on the transporters charging excessively from the people heading to their homes to spend Eidul Azha with their near and dear ones, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sindh Minister for Transport Awais Qadir Shah told media on Tuesday that as a result of province-wide crackdown over Rs0.2 million had been refunded to the passengers so far, while the guilty transporters had been made to pay Rs1, 80, 000 in fines. “Action was taken against the transporters in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Thatta and other cities of the province,” he elaborated.
Awais informed that Regional Transport Secretary Thatta Ijaz Sarheo had refunded to more than 100 people of Thar the additional fares charged from them during their journey from Karachi back to their homes.
Similarly, he added, warning had been given to the passengers not possessing coronavirus vaccine certificates in Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Mirpurkhas and other cities while police had impounded several vehicles as well.
The provincial minister further said that 45 passengers in Larkana were administered the vaccine during travelling while fines totaling Rs7, 000 was imposed on them as well for not getting themselves vaccinated against the pandemic before.
