The city of Wazirabad is closely monitoring the latest water status in the Chenab River as record-breaking inflows and discharges have been reported.

At Head Marala, the inflow of water reached a staggering 204,020 cusecs, setting a new record, while the water discharge at the same location stood at 185,820 cusecs. Similarly, at Khanki Barrage, the inflow recorded was 104,512 cusecs, with a significant water release of 97,038 cusecs.

These unprecedented water levels have raised concerns about potential flooding in nearby areas. Narowal has already experienced significant flooding in Nala Dike, where 30,000 cusecs of water has accumulated. Additionally, Nala Oj has witnessed a surge of 42,000 cusecs of water passing through. Along the river Ravi at Jaster, the water level has reached 34,640 cusecs.

To address the emergency situation, rescue teams have been deployed in Narowal under the supervision of District Emergency Officer Engineer Naeem Akhtar. Their primary focus is on ensuring the safety of the local population. Fortunately, during a recent operation, 15 individuals who were trapped in the fields near Nala Dike were successfully rescued, including 11 men and 4 women.

The authorities are urging residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow any evacuation orders or safety guidelines issued. Continuous monitoring of the water levels and close coordination between relevant departments will be crucial in managing the situation effectively and ensuring the safety of the local communities.
