The Federal Ministry of Education has decided launched solar energy project in schools of Islamabad under which all the institutions will be powered by solar energy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, initially 100 primary schools in Islamabad will be transferred to solar energy and the project is likely to be completed by the end of year.
Spokesman said the aim of the project is to reduce the cost of electricity and to promote sustainability.
The move is part of a larger effort to use renewable energy sources and reduce the city's carbon footprint, the spokesman said.
Spokesperson further said that the project will also provide a clean and sustainable source of energy for our schools.
This will include the installation of solar panels on the roofs of selected schools, spokesperson said.
The solar energy system will be designed to meet each school's energy needs, the spokesperson said.
With this initiative, the ministry is expected to save crores of rupees in electricity costs annually and the saving from the project will be used to improve educational facilities, said the spokesperson.
