K-Electric has applied with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to raise electricity prices for Karachi consumers by Rs5.45 per unit, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saturday.

K-Electric has submitted a request to NEPRA to increase the electricity rate under the monthly fuel adjustment charges for May and June.

The proposed increase includes a Rs 2.53 per unit hike for May and an additional Rs 2.92 per unit for June.

If approved in full, this adjustment is expected to impose an additional burden exceeding Rs 10 billion on Karachi consumers.
