The Punjab government has decided to launch the tram service in the provincial capital city of Lahore to facilitate the people and beautify the city, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The approval for the project was granted in a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif during her visit to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.
As per the details, LDA has started work on the project.
The tram route includes 10 locations including Main Boulevard from Kalma Chowk. The complete tram route will be 11 km long, with a stop after 1 to 1.5 km.
MM Alam Road will be made one-way by tram route as during the meeting, the chief minister approved the project related to the re-modeling and beautification of MM Alam Road.
According to the Chief Engineer LDA, modern models from Finland and China are being studied for the design of trams which may cost 27 billion.
Moreover, the tram will be given a special stopover inside Gaddafi Stadium.

The tram services will be available in Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road areas of the city.
Tram Service Launch Date
The project has received a nod from the chief minister. The government is expected to announce the launch date soon as Maryam Nawaz-led government believes in quick completion of the projects.
Lahore Tram Ticket Price
The administration will announce the ticket price for the Lahore tram service after the project is launched.
