The tragic Sushant Singh Rajput saga continued to haunt Indians as two of his young fans committed suicide, again showing people need to take depression seriously and must stop stigmatizing those who suffer from it.
Unable to bear the shocking suicide of the Bollywood star, his 14-year-old teenage fan reportedly committed suicide in Cuttack district. The deceased has been identified as Saumya Sriraj, a nine class student of Cuttack-based Saraswati Shishu Mandir. Saumya was reportedly under severe mental pressure ever since Sushant Singh died on June 14, Indian media reported on Saturday.
The girl was in mental stress as she had the same question of why Sushant committed suicide. She reportedly took the extreme step by hanging herself.
Meanwhile, according to a report published in The Hindustan Times, a 15-year-old girl died after committing suicide at her home in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, after being 'depressed' over actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death on June 14.
The family of the young has confirmed that the teenager was suffering from depression.
An investigation into the matter is underway and the girl’s fondness of Sushant as suggested by the collected diary will also be considered.
Dependra Pathak, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, said: “Yes, it's true that a girl aged 15 years old hanged herself after she went into depression over the actor's suicide. I would like to urge all the youngsters to look forward in life to achieve their goals in nation-building rather than taking such extreme steps.”
He further added, “I would also like to urge all the parents to speak to their children if they notice any symptoms of depression in them.”
