There is a deadlock in the election of the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly (NA) as the government has refused to recognize the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), which is made of independents belonging to the PTI, as a parliamentary party, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Sources told 24News that the situation had also resulted in a delay in the formation of some important NA’s standing committees, in which the representation of the members of the National Assembly (MNAs) belonging to the government and the opposition is proportionate to each other.

Sources informed that the MNAs, belonging to the SIC, JUI-F, PKMAP and the BNP, form the opposition in the House.

In the first phase, they explained, the opposition would decide who would be their leader.

This would be followed by the formation of different bodies, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), they elaborated.
