The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will meet today after 2:00 in the afternoon to hear the references against Supreme Court (SC) judge Muhammad Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

On the last hearing, the SJC had sought from the judge complete record of two properties in Lahore registered in his name.

The council had directed him to submit the record of Plot No 144 he owns in Block F-1, Gulberg-III, Lahore.

Similarly, it had sought from the judge the record of Plot no 100 St John’s Park, Lahore.

The judge is also facing the allegation of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income and misuse of authority.

Around 10 days ago, in his 14-page reply to the show-cause notice issued to him by the SJC objected to the bench, constituted to hear references against him.

Justice Naqvi expressed his concern over the presence of three judges, including Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa, in the bench.

The other two judges were Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.

He argued that the SJC proceedings, including the release of a press statement, took place without first seeking his opinion, thereby impacting his basic rights.

Justice Naqvi had pointed out that a fair trial, as decreed by the Supreme Court in the Justice Qazi Faez Isa case, was every judge’s right, and the SJC's actions violated his fundamental rights.

Justice Naqvi claimed that the SJC issued a show-cause notice to him without verifying the allegations and evidence against him during council meetings.
