AR Rahman’s hashtag amid split from wife sparks debate

Oscar-winning Indian musician AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, announced their separation in a joint statement released via their lawyer Vandana Shah.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time", Shah stated.
For the unknowns, the 57-year-old music maestro and his wife announced their separation after 29 years of marriage on November 19, 2024.
Following the announcement, Rahman took to his X account to confirm the news with an emotional statement that reads, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts."
"Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter," the Raanjhanaa hitmaker added.
Furthermore, the Oscar-winning Indian music composer ended his detailed note with a bouquet emoji followed by a puzzling hashtag "#arrsairaabreakup."
AR Rahman's post gained popularity on social media, many fans criticized him for being insensitive during this challenging phase of his life.
One fan wrote, "Who starts a hashtag for a breakup?"
"Who creates a hashtag for this situation? Fire your admin", another fan disappointedly penned.
AR Rahman’s children issue statement on parents’ separation
Indian music maestro AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu tied the knot in 1995 and shared three children – daughters Khatija, Raheema, and son Ameen who shared their first statements after their parents' separation.
The children took to their Instagram handles and urged fans to respect their privacy.
The musician’s son, singer AR Ameen wrote on his Instagram stories, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
Influencer Raheema Rahman reposted the screenshot of her father’s X statement and added, “Keep us in your prayers.”
Rahman’s eldest daughter Khatija, a singer, penned, “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter could be treated with the utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.”
