Asking the reason for haste in getting the 26th constitutional amendment passed, BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Saturday categorically stated the party was not going to vote for these amendments at gunpoint, even if meant going to heaven, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, he lamented that the government planned to get the amendment passed secretly. “Everybody, including political leaders, workers and the masses ought to know what these amendments are all about,” BNP chief stressed.

He asked whether lawmaking was done in a democracy through the use of force. “I have never seen such things happening in any democracy anywhere in the world. After all, what is so embarrassing about the amendment that the government is scared to make public.”

He was of the view that not a single member of the parliament has any worth.

Mengal said he had directed all BNP lawmakers to resign from their seats.
