PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared on Sunday that the people are looking at them now and they have to go against the government by making the new Charter of Democracy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing the Opposition’s all parties conference in Islamabad, Bilawal said the people of Pakistan are suffering from economic hardships and today the people are looking at them. “If there is no democracy in this country, the rights of the people will be robbed,” he added.

Bilawal said that crime is on the rise in society and the voice of the people is not being heard due to a lack of elected representatives. He continued that they tried hard to hold APC before the Budget 2020.

Bilawal said that the people do not want mere statements and resolutions from APC but a concrete strategy and when there is no democracy in the country the society is weakened from all sides. “In two years, our society has suffered a lot and crime has increased in the country and there is rampant inflation in every sector of the economy,” he added.

He said that people were left destitute during the historic rains in Sindh whereas in the past PPP has always supported the people in the time of need.

Bilawal emphasised the need for the conference to come up with a proper plan of action for "gaining freedom for the people".

"If [the people's] elected representatives cannot even speak in parliament and get their votes re-counted, what hope the nation would have?" he asked. He demanded that the opposition be given a level-playing field, not only in politics and media but in the parliament as well.

He urged the opposition to unite and launch a movement similar to the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) in the past. "We are standing with the decision this forum takes and are willing to fight till our last breath," he said.

Earlier, the joint Opposition began the all parties conference hosted by the Pakistan Peoples Party at a five-star hotel in the federal capital.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif addressed the APC first via video link.

Before the APC, the PPP and PML-N leadership have held consultations. Nayyar Bukhari and Sherry Rehman were also present in the meeting on behalf of PPP.

PML-N, National Party (NP), Awami National Party (ANP), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) and Jamiatul Hadees participated in the conference.

PML-N delegation, under party president and Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif, arrived at the conference with Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq, Pervaiz Rasheed, Maryam Nawaz, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Rana Sanaullah, Ameer Maqam, and Marriyum Aurangzeb.
