Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has failed to keep his word to provide electricity consumers with relief in 48 hours, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.

Moreover, the premier could not stop the supply of free electricity to government officials costing Rs20 billion annually to national exchequer.

Countrywide protest against inflated electricity bills made the PM rush to head meetings of persons concerned and he vowed to provide the people with relief in 48 hours.

The finance ministry recommended immediate termination of the free electricity facility but the prime minister refrained the officials from withdrawing the facility.

He took the step fearing protests by government officials and employees.

The report submitted to the prime minister on free electricity made some startling revelations.

Former officials are being provided with free units and the free units are being sold too.

A total of Rs 189,000 employees and officers are enjoying free electricity.
