45 percent of coronavirus cases in Punjab linked to Tableeghi Jamaat

792 new cases take tally in Pakistan to 9,193 and Punjab to 4,195

Confirmation of 792 new coronavirus cases in the country on Monday took the total number of infections in Pakistan to 9,193, with Punjab taking the lead with 4,195 patients.

According to the official figures given by the official portal https://covid-19.pk, the number of confirmed cases in Sindh on Monday stood at 2,764, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,276, Balochistan 465, Gilgit-Baltistan 263, Federal Capital 181 and Azad Kashmir 49.

At least 2,047 people have recovered fully from the deadly virus, while 192 people have succumbed to the disease.

According to the figures shared by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on his official Twitter page on Monday evening, Punjab has conducted 60,649 tests so far and found 4,195 positive patients. Of these infected people, 1,857 belong to the Tableeghi Jamaat and 743 are pilgrims. This means members of the Tableeghi Jamaat make almost 45 percent of total coronavirus cases in Punjab. The number of infected prisoners is 97, while the number of non-quarantined cases in various Punjab districts is 1,498. The number of deaths in Punjab stood at 45 on April 20, while 724 people have recovered from the disease. According to the official count, 14 virus patients in Punjab are critical.

The district-wise count of coronavirus patients (non-quarantine) is as following: Lahore 629, Nankana Sahib 1, Kasur 10, Shiekhupura 18, Rawalpindi 175, Jhelum 33, Attock 11, Chakwal 4, Gujranwala 68, Sialkot 56, Narowal 5, Gujrat 155, Hafizabad 11, Mandi Bahauddin 12, Multan 31, Khanewal 1, Vehari 35, Faisalabad 50, Chiniot 8, Toba Tek Singh 7, Jhang 33, Rahim Yar Khan 56, Sargodha 25, Mianwali 12, Khushab 4, Bahawalnagar 8, Bahawalpur 11, Lodhran 3, Dera Ghazi Khan 21, Layyah 1, Okara 1 and Pakpattan 3.
