Ex-PM Imran Khan under fire for ruining national economy

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif came down hard on ex-prime minister Imran Khan for ‘breaking every promise’ and inflicting serious damage upon the country, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday. 

“The PTI chairman broke the back of Pak economy, so there was no reason for a foreign conspiracy against him,” he said. He questioned Imran’s conspiracy claims.

“Why will there be a foreign conspiracy against you? Were you involved in holding an atomic blast?”

He listed his government’s feats saying that during the PML-N's government, the country's economy was moving in the right direction.

Nawaz Sharif added: "But now we will have to repair the damage done to the economy.

"Ousting Imran Khan from power was crucial for the country's development. Imran Khan promoted the culture of hooliganism and immorality. Noting that there was an enormous challenge facing the new government." 

The former prime minister said: "We need to work together as Pakistan saw the worst of times during the four years that Imran Khan was in power. He took U-turns on everything and always did the opposite of what he vowed to."

Imran Khan claimed that he would take his own life before approaching the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial support, Nawaz recalled and added no one saw him ‘taking his own life till now.

Recovering the economy is a matter of life and death, he said adding that bringing back the value of the rupee is not easy, it is a difficult task. The ex-premier said it was very important to save the nation from Imran Khan.

Every issue is being challenged against the constitution and law and a culture of bullying is being promoted, Nawaz Sharif stressed. Imran Khan's era was the worst in the history, he said adding that Pakistan was not created to be destroyed.

Nawaz insisted that the party leaders have to sit together to solve problems. He thanked Bilawal for visiting him and also informed journalists that they would hold another meeting tomorrow.

Bilawal Bhutto too seconded Nawaz Sharif and laid stress on joint efforts to cope with the challenges being faced by the state.

He congratulated Nawaz Sharif on replacing a ‘selected premier’ with an elected PM and upholding the supremacy of the constitution and democracy.

Key PPP figures, including Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, and Qamar Zaman Kaira, accompanied the party chief.

The leadership of PPP and PML-N reiterated their resolve to continue concerted efforts to strengthen democracy and uphold the supremacy of the constitution.

On his arrival, Nawaz sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz welcomed Bilawal Bhutto. Former finance minister Ishaq Dar was also present.

Bilawal Bhutto told the media that the political parties joined hands for the cause and such a union can cope with the challenges being faced by the country. He said: “I can see that we can fight for the survival of democracy. We have fought for the survival of the constitution and democracy in the past too.  

“It was a conspiracy of Bilawal House, not of the United States. We can also see the restoration of democracy and constitution.”
