CM Naqvi suspends Gujrat CIA in-charge over custodial torture claim

Taking notice of the custodial torture of an arrested accused by Gujrat CIA officials, caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has suspended the CIA in-charge, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. 

The chief minister also ordered for the removal of Gujrat District Police Officer. 

Though the Gujrat Regional Police Officer ordered to register a case against the city CIA in-charge but the case could not be lodged. 

Two officers of Gujranwala RPO office viz. SPR (IB) and SP (Legal Inquiry) have been nominated as inquiry officers.

CM Naqvi ordered a legal and departmental action against the responsible officers.

The RPO vowed strict action against the officers if they were proved guilty in the inquiry. He said that the custodial torture will not be tolerated at all. He maintained that there is no place for officers who bring shame to the police department. 

Separately, Chief Minister Naqvi expressed his indignation over the deteriorating security situation in Mandi Bahauddin.

During last two months, 24 people have been murdered in the area and police have so far failed to trace the cases and arrest the culprits. 

The Punjab chief minister ordered for the immediate removal of the District Police Officer in the wake of worsening law and order situation in Mandi Bahuddin.
