A newly-wed girl died on the spot when her stepfather opened fire on her in Vehari, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Police sources said that the girl who was later identified as Sofia Bibi has got married just three days before her death.
Soon after the incident, local police reached the crime scene and shifted the dead body of the girl to District Hospital Vehari.
Saddar Police Station registered a case of murder against accused Mohammad Latif under Sections 302 and 109 on behalf of girl’s husband Mohammad Arshad.
The accused escaped from the scene after the murder along with the weapon used in the killing of the young bride.
Acting District Police Officer (DPO) Farooq Ahmad Kimyana immediately took notice of the murder incident and directed police to arrest the accused on priority basis.
It is necessary to mention here that two incidents of murder have occurred within a span of six hours in District Vehari.
Further investigation was under way.
