The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has decided to postpone the 35th National Games, initially scheduled in May this year.
According to 24News HD TV channel, a decision to this effect was taken in a key meeting of its executive committee held in Lahore on Monday.
As per inside sources, the games will now be organized in November or December.
The meeting was chaired by POA President Arif Saeed and attended by General Secretary Khalid Mahmood, along with several key office-bearers from various national sports federations.
Among the attendees were Ahmer Malik, President of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation; Aisam-ul-Haq, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation; Hafiz Imran Butt, President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation; Wajid Chaudhry, President of the Pakistan Badminton Federation; and Rana Sarwar, President of the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation.
Chaudhry Arshad Sattar, Vice President of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation; renowned Olympic wrestler Inam Butt; and Chairman of the Pakistan Karate Federation, Muhammad Jahangir were also present in the meeting.
The meeting focused primarily on evaluating the reasons behind the postponement of the National Games.
The sources said that organizational and logistical challenges were among the major contributing factors to the delay.
In addition to the National Games, the committee also discussed preparations for the upcoming Pakistan Youth Games, which are scheduled to be held in September under the aegis of the POA.
A formal press briefing on the outcomes of the executive committee meeting is expected to be held tomorrow, where further details regarding the revised schedule and planning for both the National and Youth Games will be shared with the media.
