The most senior judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday, April 21, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The oath was administered by Justice Muneeb Akhtar during a formal ceremony at the Supreme Court.
The appointment comes as Chief Justice Yahya Afridi embarked on an official visit to China, where he will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of Supreme Courts of SCO Member States in Hangzhou from April 22 to 26, 2025.
Justice Afridi is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Shahid Waheed, Zafar Jan (District & Sessions Judge, Gwadar), and Ms Nadia Gul Wazir (Senior Civil Judge, Lakki Marwat).
During the conference, an important MoU is expected to be signed between the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Supreme People’s Court of China, focusing on enhancing bilateral judicial cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.
Chief Justice Afridi is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the Chief Justice of Iran, and following the SCO engagements, he will travel to Istanbul to attend the 63rd Anniversary of the Turkish Constitutional Court at the invitation of its President, Kadir Özkaya, from April 24 to 27.
