Lionesses of the Field won Dr. Shahs Five-A-Side Women’s Hockey Tournament by defeating Pearl Pioneers in the final 5-3.

Saima Ghula (2), Iqra Iqbal (2) and Sameena Tabassum (1) were the goal scorers for winning team Lionesses of the Field, while Musfirah Furqan (1) and Sundus (2) scored the goals for Pearl Pioneers.

The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Dr. Syed Imran Ali Shah, who distributed prizes to the winner and runner-up teams.

While the ceremony was presided over by Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Abdul Aleem Lashari.

Dr. Shahs Five-A-Side Women’s Hockey Tournament was organised by the KHA Women’s Wing in collaboration of Karachi Hockey Association, and was played at the multipurpose mini Astro Turf of Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr. Junaid Ali Shah KHA Sports Complex.

The chief guest, Dr. Syed Imran Ali Shah, said that girls are no less than anyone in the field of play. I was very impressed by their performance in the final. I will continue to support women’s hockey.

Dr. Imran Ali Shah said that when weddings and commercial activities were held here in 2016, my brother Dr. Junaid Ali Shah became the president of KHA, he installed Astro Turf here and played an important role in the revival of the game of hockey.

Sports Secretary Abdul Aleem Lashari said that the Sports Department is supporting the Karachi Hockey Association and will always do so and it is a good thing that young girls of all ages are taking interest in hockey. He said that the under-construction hostel of KHA will be completed on time.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah President Karachi Hockey Association, said that when KHA was in ruins in 2016 and sports activities were non-existent here, but today the hockey activities in KHA are at their peak and the ground that looks so beautiful, the credit goes to former president Dr. Junaid Ali Shah, who continued his father’s services in sports. He said that Karachi Hockey Association and KHA ground are indebted to Dr. Junaid Ali Shah. As the President of KHA, he worked day and night to develop the ground and faced forces that would not have been possible under normal circumstances.

On this occasion, KHA Women's Wing President Mrs Asma Ali Shah said that Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah's association with KHA as its president is a guarantee of hockey's success in Karachi. The hostel under construction at KHA is a gift from Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, my effort is to provide a strong platform for women hockey players to showcase their talents at the national and international levels.

Former Member of National Assembly Rehan Hashmi, Olympian Iftikhar Syed, Olympian Hanif Khan, Olympian Kaleemullah, Olympian Nasir Ali, Olympian Wasim Feroze,  former international goalkeeper coach of the national team Abdul Ghafoor, coach of the national women's team Muhammad Naeem, Secretary Women's Wing of KHA Miss Batool Kazim, Dr. Arif Hafeez, Khalid Munir, Wasim Majid, Madam Nuzhat, International Zahid Maqbool, Zulqarnain Haider, Tasneem Usmani, Muhammad Faizan, Saghir Hussain, Imtiaz-ul-Hassan and others were also present on the occasion.

The female players who were given the Best Emerging Players awards include Samina Tabassum, Nida Anjum, Mahnoor, Reja Moeez, Hamna Nadeem, Iman and Gulnaz Ghulam Nabi.

Director Sports for Commissioner Karachi Ghulam Muhammad Khan performed the duties of comparing.
