Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Saeed Ghani said on Monday that a prime minister did not have the power to greenlight the construction of canals, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Talking to the media in Karachi, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif could not do so even if he wanted to.

Ghani further said that the president did not have any executive power under the constitution. “You say that President Asif Ali Zardari had signed the document sanctioning the construction of canals. If that is the case, then show me his signatures.”

The minister also made it clear that the PPP had not been forced to raise its voice over the canals issue. “We have been given the mandate by the people of Sindh.”
