Three pilgrims from Bahawalpur traveling through Quetta to Iran have tested positive for monkeypox, reported 24NewsHd TV channel on Tuesday.
According to sources, the three family members, a mother, her son, and daughter had initially set off from Quetta intending to cross in Iraq through Iran.
However, their plans were abruptly halted as Iranian health officials, conducting routine checks, identified symptoms consistent with monkeypox.
The subsequent medical tests confirmed the diagnosis, prompting swift quarantine measures.
The trio has since been placed under quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease.
The case has raised alarm among both Pakistani and Iranian health authorities, as the spread of monkeypox, a viral disease known for its contagious nature and potentially severe symptoms, poses a significant public health risk.
The pilgrims are now under strict medical observation in Iran, with local health officials closely monitoring their condition, sources added.
