The Islamabad administration has given the lawyers time until February 28 to demolish their illegally-constructed chambers on their own.
The administration has informed the lawyers that it will not be responsible for any losses if they do not demolish the illegal structures on their own within the given time.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has said this is the final notice to lawyers to demolish the illegal structures they have set up at the district courts. The CDA has said in the notice that there are lawyers’ chambers and some other structures in F-8 Markaz that have been built illegally. The notice was issued by Laeeq Zaman, director general of CDA’s Enforcement Wing.
Last week, scores of protesting lawyers barged in Islamabad Judicial Complex after demolition of their chambers by the CDA. The protest turned violent when the angry lawyers smashed windows at the Chief Justice Block and raised slogans outside the office of the Islamabad High Court chief justice.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah got stuck in his office during the protest, which started after the CDA demolished illegal chambers set up by lawyers on the premises of the district and sessions court in Islamabad on Sunday night.
